Well we are moving -- AGAIN. And rather than give the flat-bed tow truck guy any more money I am opting to finally replace the 4 flats and get my custom towbar made so I can drag the thing to the new place.
A garage awaits.

Question -- would anyone care to email me a pic and specs of upgrades to the orginal rims?

As long as I am replacing the old tires -- I'd like to start my upgrades from the ground up.

Thanks fellas!

Joe,

Here's some info I posted under the heading "Pulse Front Wheel"
------------------------------

Name - Horizon,Omni

Year - 79 - 90

OE size - 13x5

Bolt - 4x100

Lug Nut - 12mmx1.5

CB (center bore) - 57.1

Offset - +40

This spec is also found on the Chevette and Audi Fox 76-84

The 88-93 Pontiac Lemans matches this spec except the wheel width is 5.5 instead of 5.0. So it may fit, depending on your shock/tire clearance.

------------------

My plan is to "machine" a new axle so a 16 inch touring bike wheel, tire, speedometer, and dual disc brakes can easily be placed up front. A low profile motorcycle tire on a 16 inch rim is surprisingly not any "taller" than the auto tire mounted on the 13 rim found on all Pulses, so clearance shouldn't be an issue.

Could you make 2?
What would that run me?

I'm sorry I just saw a picture -- was it Tom?
It looked like he had a nice rim up front...

Can you use the same rim front and back?

Thanks a lot!

Yes, Tom has probably the nicest styled front wheel I've seen on a Pulse. I believe he said it was an Enkei. That model, the Aeronautics, was available in the late 80s or 90s, but is no longer. I did alot of online searching for them. Couldn't even fine used ones.

I think once I make the transition to the motorcycle alternative, a whole lot of custom wheel options will be available. It sure would be nice to replace the ugly Dodge Omni wheel and car tire.

Here's a good site which shows you tire heights for cars.

http://www.sstire.com/tireheights.html

As you can see, you can use a 215 40 16 and it's still the same height as the original 155 80 13, however, the odds are it's too wide.

Here's even a better site for actually looking at BEFORE and AFTER analysis.

http://gs.tolan-hoechst.com/tirecalc.htm

.... and then, of course, my favorite place on the web for learning about anything...

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/tire2.htm

Here's a tire sizing for a 16 inch sport bike profile

size 110/90-16
height 23.56
width 4.59
weight rating 535 @ 42

So this motocycle tire would add approx 3/4 inch to the overall present Pulse car tire diameter/height of 22.76 or less than a 1/2 inch to the radius. I don't think this extra height would cause "fit" issues in the front lower swingarm or within the body opening.

I was up all night searching for replacement original rims -- just because I thot it would be easier and cheaper to mount fresh rubber on a clean set of rims than try to refurbish the old beat, rusted and possibly bent ones on the wreck.

I never called them ugly but you're right -- they aint the prettiest girls in town.

Am I taking the original 13x5 spec too literally?
There aren't a lot more choices in that field -- I found these:

Primax Wheels

http://www.aaatire.com/uswh1.htm
US Wheels 1

http://www.colorworksmotorsport.com/usw3.html
US Wheel Steel Wheels from Colorworks, Page 3

as well as these OEMs:

http://www.getcrashparts.com/parts.asp?sku=&make=DODGE&model=OMNI&year=1990&class=000&classname=All+Categories&diameter=&engine=&ac=&tt=
Get Crash Parts .com - 1990 DODGE OMNI - Parts Selector

http://www.getcrashparts.com/parts.asp?sku=&make=CHEVROLET&model=CHEVETTE&year=1984&class=000&classname=All+Categories&diameter=&engine=&ac=&tt=
Get Crash Parts .com - 1984 CHEVROLET CHEVETTE - Parts Selector

http://www.getcrashparts.com/parts.asp?sku=&make=PONTIAC&model=LEMANS&year=1993&class=000&classname=All+Categories&diameter=&engine=&ac=&tt=
Get Crash Parts .com - 1993 PONTIAC LEMANS - Parts Selector

But let me ask again because I'm so new at this and so close to getting my wreck on the road at last...

What is the LARGEST spec currently in the club for front and rear tire/tim combos?

You guys are the best!

That Joe Guy,
Joe King
