I was up to visit the home of the pulse autocycle in Owosso, MI and I stoped by to chat with Steve Schmidt and he has different canopy slides than mine. His has the solid bar on his and mine has the bearing rolling slides like on a drawer cabinet. Can you still get the solid bar type or what is the thought on the two types and which on is better? Thanks and I hope to meet everyone at the Marion Rally this year. David |

Mine also has the drawer type and all I know is that it wasn't worth driving the vehicle with the canopy open! The shuddering that the canopy experianced from the wind resistance was bothersome.
This includes low speed. Too much play or not enough rigidity. |

Mine also has the bar slide and I believe I found a replacement or
one that would work in a "Grainger" catalog. _________________ Florida Panhandle |

Steve,
What's the part number? I'm getting close to replicating my tubular steel bar slide from #77 for the two new proto-types and it would be nice to have an OEM solution.

My wife said something like that to me a while back. Too much play and not enough.......
Seriously, I had to do the appraisal thing recently, there is no resemblance between asking and book. Book is a joke. _________________ Pulsing with excitement,

I believe we can replace the canopy slides with a part # SRA-12
from danahermotion.com. May have to check on the length but I
think it is available up to 72 in.
In the morning I will be back at 525 ft in the Gulf Of Mexico for ? so
will be out of pocket for awhile. How about an Autocycle Sub? _________________ Florida Panhandle |

I have the round solid bars in mine but could use new bushings in the bolck that sides on the bar. Would that catalog have those? _________________ Pete Hatfield

i found a good slide substitute for thos with solid rails..
a piece of pvc plastic pipe.. carefullly slot a short section (i used a hand grinder) and slide it in..
I also used a teflon spray to help make sliding easier..
you can also find nylon bushings at about any hardware store for pennies.. and slot them... you might have to fasten them in with a set screw or as I did with a touch of epoxy put on the outside (trial fit first!) and slide into the canopy..
speaking of which.. any news of canopies? or for that matter the mold? _________________ steve george litestar #009

Steve,
Wow, nice site (danahermotion.com). That place is just full of "goodies". I agree, that slide looks like it might just work. I wonder how their prices are?

About that nice photo/address by Steve Schmidt on Aircraft Spruce...
is that slide assembly only usable for horizontal mounting as pictured or can it be used sideways?
No, I'm not able to even take advantage of such a product, but for constructive thought I wonder if it has limited mounting allowance to carry load. Is it design-specific?
Looks rugged enough to reduce canopy shudder when at full-open and at highway speed or less. |
