I need a front seat. Can anyone advise me of good sources, or does anyone have one they would like to sell?

I bought mine from Cabellas:

Had to build a bracket for it though.

Lee,

The Pulse original seats were nothing more than a inexpensive boat seat. I saw them at WalMart a few years back when I was restoring Pulse #77, but decided to go with a Recaro "knock off" automotive seat. Those original seats used plywood on the base and were just bolted into 4 mounting tabs welded on the center tube. You can use anything from lawn furniture to racing seats if you just have big enough mounts built to where it can handle a variety of seat dimensions.

One reason they probably opted for the inexpensive boat seat originally (other than price) was because it had a pretty low back support, so it allowed easy access to the rear. The dimension in the Pulse is wide enough to handle anything but a Lazy Boy recliner. I believe there's a Pulse in Florida that has a front seat from a Caddy or Lincoln with electric adjustments, etc... (not sure about a cup holder)

Just make sure it has a release lever so you can quickly recline the seat all the way forward. This will let you get in the back for maintainance or getting passengers in and out.

The back seat is simply two pieces of plywood covered with foam and vinyl to match the front seat.

I've seen all kinds of seats in Pulses, includiing nicely maintained original seats, so the choice is yours... looks, comfort, accessibility, and price. I did a search online and didn't see an exact match for the original, if that's important to you. However, there are plenty from $20 and up that come pretty close.

Hope this helps...

- Bob

Can't remember the number either. I do remember that the seat was from a Chrysler Imperial, though.

Edit: Found it. It's number 279. Pretty good pictures in the VIN database area.

Bob,
Thanks for the reply. I found a great seat at an outdoor retailer used for fishing boats.

Congrats on finding a seat, Lee!

So, are we going to see some "in progress" shots or are you going to hold off for a "Big Reveal"? Very Happy

Number 189 is going to the paint shop this week. We have not decided on a color or graphics, but when it is done, for sure I will post pics.
