Thanks to Dan Acker for the following information.
Pulse backup motor assembly:
This unit is comprised of an aluminum casting that holds the electric drive motor that is connected to a drive shaft that in turn rotates a flexible shaft that can be manually pressed against the tire to the drive the rear wheel in reverse. It is pushed against the tire from the driver’s seat by a cable connected to a handle on the right hand side and activated electrically, for reverse, by a button in front of the engine gear shifter.
My unit would go into reverse, but not actually move the Pulse in reverse.
The tire contact to the tire was good, but the rear tire contact would not rotate. Upon inspection it was found that the roll pin (tension pin) was sheared.
If you look at the photo you can see where a punch goes through the tire contact roller. This is where the sheared pin was knocked out and replaced by a new roll pin.
Upon reinstallation the unit performed as it had in the past.
As information:
The roll pin, sometimes called a tension pin was 1.5 inches long and 5/32 in diameter.
The actual reverse motor is a MITSUBA SM-220 12V .7KW. it is a Honda part and was used on the 1979 – 1982 Honda CB 900.
The cast aluminum housing and tire contact do not have any identifying marks on them.

(Do an internet search) They sell many parts for the Honda Goldwing 1800
For repairs ....check with your local alternator repair shop ...they might be able to replace the endcap for under $50.00. That should improve the power. The biggest problem with this setup is the drive cone has a tooth like design, this provides a very small contact area with the tire. If the driver was a slightly treaded roller shape, it might have more surface area against the tire and be much more efficient. The Reverse is only good on level, paved ground. If you try your OMCC factory reverse on grass or gravel or paved uphill, you are going to chew the tires to pieces.
