Litestar #5 needs just a little work to get up and running.
It was restored around 10 years ago, garaged(without gas) for the last 2 years then purchased by myself.
My diagnostic so far: The car gets great battery power and the engine turns over but never catches. Fresh oil and gas in the machine so I first replaced the spark plugs. Same result. I checked for fire in the spark plugs and Im not getting any fire which points to the electrical system. The ignition coil is for a 2 cylinder so it has two cords that secure the spark plugs. Im having issues finding a suitable replacement part for this one so I was hoping any one with interest could shed some light on the matter for me.

This particular bike is actually the 450cc Hondamatic. Ive been told that any 2 cylinder coil should do the trick assuming it has the same characteristics of the original. |

Send me a snapshot of coils. If there is a Honda Motorcycle Dealer close by give him the information on what engine you have and ask for help. |

Look on Ebay they have a pair on there listed for about $45.00 Just put "FL102-12V coil " in the search. Hope this helps.

Im looking to find a replacement plexi shield for the license plate area for my Litestar. Were the dimensions different than the Pulse? Ive done business in the past with plexiglass suppliers but would they be able to supply something like this...shaped? Any pointer would be helpful thanks! |

As far as the rear taillight cover goes. Make a simple mold of the taillight opening using short 2X4s cut to shape with a bandsaw and glued together.
Buy a sheet of 1/4" thick clear plastic
which should be available at glass companies. Put the mold on a cookie sheet in your kitchen oven and lay the plastic over the mold and turn on low heat. Watch the plastic droop or drape down on sides of wood. You may want to set the mold on an additional 2X4 so that the plastic can extend beyond the mold. This excess plastic can be trimmed later.
When it is complete, remove cookie sheet and let air cool outdoors before removing mold. Ventilate kitchen during process.
When cooled off, trim excess plastic.
I have heard this works, but have not done it myself. Others may want to chime in.
The Owosso factory tail covers are not 100% rain proof, so don't worry about perfect fit and finish.
When drilling holes in plastic, run your drill motor in reverse and let drill do its thing slowly. Otherwise, drilling may crack plastic.
You may want to use two different size bits and practice in a sample piece of your plastic. |

Thanks for the tips Steve, Ill be sure to check that out.
As for the rod that snapped in the litestar engine it looks like it goes from the side of the engine then runs along the left side the interior of the vehicle. I havent pulled apart the side panels yet (I will be doing so in the future for restoration purposes) so I cant really tell what it connects do. The rod also connected to the vent flaps. THe vent flaps still open and close with no issue so Im wondering what else what attached to it... |

So I got a replacement coil and it shows up today but the plugs that go to the spark plugs are a tad short and I dont think it will reach. Is there a way to extend them? |

New update:
The replacement coil couldnt be extended but I was able to find a good replacement coil at a local autozone.

unfortunately the vehicle will still not fully start. What would be the next best course of action to take when the coil seems not to be the issue? |

Try finding a Honda dealership mechanic by
attending a local motorcycle show or swap meet.
Check on Craigslist. Someone can check out your
engine. Make sure all wiring is good, connections tight,
clean fuel at the carbs. Carbs must be cleaned
especially the jets. I had to dip mine several times.
I would buy new coils, try ebay.
Also join a honda motorcycle forum. There are many owners
who will help run down these gremlins. |

Thanks again for the tips Steve. Im working tirelessly to at least get her running again. One question I do have someone here could possibly answer. On the Pulse the fuse section is on the left side of the steering column. Would it be the same for the Litestar?
Also an update- the rod I snapped actually is part of the mechanism that opens and closes the vents! Should be a simple fix. |

Just an update for everyone:
The bike lives again! After replacing nearly all of the components on the starting line, as well as cleaning the heck out of the carb I was able to breathe life back into her. She needs some fine tuning for the engine but soon she will be road worthy again and ready for upgrades!
Things to do before road worthy:
Bleed Brakes
New Brakes
New Horn
New parking Brake
Headlamp fix
Possibly new tires
Upgrades to come:
New gas tank
New canopy sliders
Redo Interior
Cooling system
Going to Wrap the car
Switching from incandescent to LED
Probably a bunch of other things Im not thinking of. |

Does anyone know about the kickstand mechanism for the hondamatic engine? My bike starts and idles like a champ just fine but switching it into 1st will shut the engine down. This happens because either the idle speed screws needs adjustment on the carb( done and did not help) or that the bike is sensing a kickstand down. Any ideas? |

Problem solved, out of the CDI box if the green and white cable is connected to the black and green cable it will not work. That essentially completes the kickstand circuit. |

This bike is back alive! She had a kill switch in the back that was removed to make ignition more like a car(since the switch was located by the engine) as well another fuse block for that portion of the electrical system. Carb was cleaned and tuned and now she stars and runs like a champ. Im hoping to to get my inspection done this week and back on the road. Wont make it to this years Rally sadly. |

Winter storage was harsh on my bike this year. The carb gunked up terribly and my carb woes being all over again.
