Ever thought about Turbine Power for your Pulse?
Jay Leno has a turbine powered motorcycle that is street legal.
Gas turbine engine motorcycle. :: The Y2K Superbike is a product of Ted McIntyre's imagination. It truly sets a new standard in the exotic motorcycle world. The bike is built around (literally) a turbine engine ... the same kind used in helicopters. And the bike sounds like a helicopter. According to Ted, when he is on the highway, people in nearby cars are looking everywhere for the helicopter and they are startled to find that it is passing them on the highway ... at speeds up to 250 mph (guaranteed, although they haven't been clocked at over 220 yet). The bike will do 0-200kph in @ 6 seconds. Owners claim that the bike accelerates faster at higher speeds (over 100 mph). The bike uses the same type of engine that is used in a helicopter that carries five people and luggage, which translates to over 300 horsepower.
Jet bike listed these specs:
Engine..... Rolls Royce Allison 250 gas turbine
Power.....320 HP @52,000 rpm (286 HP @ rear wheel)
Output RPM.....6,000 rpm
Torque.....425 ft/lbs @ 2,000 rpm
Compressor Speed.....54,000 rpm
Fuel.....diesel, kerosene
Lubrication.....dry-sump/3.5 quarts turbine oil
Transmission.....2 speed automatic or manual
Another Turbine engine that could be used is a quiet Garrett GTP30....these sell for about $1,000 used on ebay. |
